5 Best Moments From Game of Thrones Season 6

So Game of Thrones is finally over for another season. Before you start frantically searching for a new drama to watch, relive some of the best moments of the series here with me.

Cersei’s Redemption

Cersei is a cold hearted figure that is always seemingly in control, her composure however has been contested recently. After her literal walk of shame, we saw a more vulnerable, human side to our most calculated Lannister. In the season finale, Winds of Winter, she gets her strength back and proves she will not go down without a fight. Not only does she slaughter most of her enemies, she shatters half of Kings Landing to bits. It was only a matter of time before the high sparrow found out who he was really dealing with. On a more poignant note, Tommen’s woeful suicide completes the prophecy that all three of Cersei’s children will die. What this means for Westeros, I cannot imagine. But they don’t say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned for no reason.

Battle of the Bastards

There are so many moments from this episode that stand out individually. Many industry professionals and GOT geeks have commended the episode as a cinematic masterpiece. Aside from Ramsay Bolton’s comeuppance, the actual battle is the most dramatic and tense in the entire 6 seasons so far. Ramsay’s infamous game playing meant the anticipation for his next move made the episode a very tense one. Despite Sansa’s warnings to Jon, they still fall into his trap.  In true Ramsay fashion, he uses psychological trauma to draw out Jon Snow, and as a result, the rest of his army. The specific moment I’d like to mention is the encirclement scene, this is where we all thought “no way they’re getting out of this one”. But thanks to Miss Sansa, they did. Although the general consensus is that we hate Ramsay, the battle wouldn’t have been nearly as epic if it wasn’t for his compulsion to toy with people. Thank you for a great season, Iwan Rheon, we’ll miss loving to hate you!

Stark’s Reunited

This is a moment we’ve been waiting for since the Stark family dispersed in season one. The Stark children, all of them, are underdogs that have gained and kept out sympathy since their father was brutally beheaded under Joffrey’s authority. What is so great is that in this moment you can really see the character development in Sansa – she is no longer the delicate flower she had been for so long. In a way, we can thank Ramsay Bolton for bringing that ruthlessness out of her. In reminiscing with Jon Snow, it becomes really clear how much they have both grown. I cannot express my delight when the gates were drawn at Castle black with Sansa standing on the other side. The siblings so happy to have found each other brought a tear to my eye. Hopefully Arya will be next to re-join her relatives.

Arya’s Vengeance

Ding dong the bitch is dead! It might sound mean, but we all love it when an asshole dies in GOT. I’m a big fan of Arya Stark and I’ve been waiting for her to kill this girl for a long time. For a while, I had every confidence that Arya would settle the score, but after the chase scene in episode 8 I really had my doubts. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this scene. It had me clutching my duvet in bed, and for that, I loved what The Waif brought to the table. But no one slaps Arya Stark around.

We also need to talk about Walder Frey’s murder, which for some is a lot more significant. In previous seasons, the cynic in me couldn’t take her ‘list’ seriously, and she came across as a teenager with a chip on her shoulder. Now she is showing more than ever her true capability. Crossing one of the bigger names off the list is a huge accomplishment for her. It is so easy to forget Arya’s age with all she’s been through, but her survival skills are becoming refined tools to help her get what she wants – vengeance. Showing once again this young girl is a force to be reckoned with.

Dany finally sets sail for Westeros

Although watching her rise has been fun, it is finally time to see GOT’s favourite white haired queen leave to take Westeros. This season she lost control after an unexpected ambush, this subsequently led to her entrapment by The Dothraki, her former husband’s tribe. This loss of power forced her advisors to take control and we really see Tyrion and Missandei come into their own. But the moment has finally come – she has her armies, her dragons, and her fleet. Next season is going to be bloody epic. Let’s not forget, with Cersei on the throne it’s going to be a battle of queens. This was a season full of girl power moments and I can’t wait till we see the women go head to head.
